James D. Carpenter, 86, of Garrettsville, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at his residence.  He was born October 1, 1928 in Braxton County, WV to Floyd and Iva Lee (Howes) Carpenter.   James married Elva on November 2, 1953.  He proudly served in the United States Army.

James was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garrettsville.  He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was an avid reader.  James loved spending time with family and friends.

James is survived by his sons, Eddie of Illinois. Donnie (Karen) of Freedom and Eric of West Virginia; daughters Teresa (Sam) McGarvey of Garrettsville and Malinda Carpenter of Solon; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2012; son, James and grandson, James.

Calling hours were Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St, Garrettsville, Ohio  44231.  Funeral Services were Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 1 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Greg Ebie officiating.  Burial will be at Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom.
