Hiram Twp. – At the recent meeting of the Hiram Township Trustees, the trustees discussed a request the three trustees received to meet with the members of the Hiram Village Council to jointly meet and discuss Hiram Township Resolution 2014-3, regarding annexation of a parcel of village-situated property. This resolution was presented to Hiram Village Council for consideration at their March 18th meeting. It was agreed that all Township trustees would be in attendance at this joint meeting, on April 8th at 6 pm. The results of that meeting were not available before press time.

In other news, trustees discussed an Ohio Department of Transportation paving project that involves resurfacing portions of State Route 82 & 303. More specifically, the project includes the resurfacing of SR 82 from just east of SR 44 to the Trumbull County line. This project also includes minor bridge repairs to six bridges on SR 82 and one bridge on SR 303, according to ODOT. The project, which encompasses the communities of Windham, Hiram & Mantua Townships, and the Villages of Hiram & Garrettsville, should be completed by October 2014, at an estimated cost of $3 million.

In similar news, Road Supervisor Tom Matota reported that the Township’s ODOT salt order for the 2014-2015 season has been ordered. This year, the Township Road crew used 485 tons of salt, which is an increase from salt used in previous years. Mr. Matota ordered 400 tons for the coming season. In addition, he mentioned that the Township had been contacted by a representative from Freedom Township regarding their interest in building a shared salt storage structure for both communities. Discussion ensued on the topic, but no decision was reached.

The next meeting of the Hiram Township Trustees will be held on April 15th at 7 pm in the Township Hall.
