Hiram Twp. – The township has received a copy of a suit filed in December by the Pinter family against Clarence Moore, the owner of Far View Airport, a privately owned airstrip in Hiram. The issue was initially brought to the attention of Township Trustees in February of last year. At that time, Trustees asked both parties to work with the County Prosecutorā€™s office to reach a resolution. At this time, Trustees are waiting to hear the outcome of the suit.
According to Trustee Steve Pancost, the Comprehensive Plan will be forthcoming from the Regional Planning office. The Plan is a long-range guide for community and resource management, and will be important to help guide future land use and development in the area.
Similarly, a representative from the Portage County Parks District would like an opportunity to speak at an upcoming trustee meeting. The topic would be the Park Districtā€™s plan for a Parks levy on the ballot for the May 2014 general election. A time for the meeting has yet to be confirmed.

In addition, Trustee Kathy Schulda shared that the township representative on the Hiram Trust Board, had resigned from the position. So, the trustees need to appoint another township resident to fill this roll. The trustees identified three potential candidates, who will be contacted by mail or email. Any interested parties may contact a trustee for more information.

Road Supervisor Tom Matota reported that his crew handled the recent cold snap without problem or incident. He also notified trustees that the Indian Maid stonework in the Riverside Cemetery has been completed. Mr. Matota requested trustees approval to have his crew work to clean and renovate the rest of the structure. Permission was given, granted the project would not interfere with other township projects.

Lastly, trustees are in the process of having township cemetery regulations and pricing added to the Hiram Township website, hiramtownship.org. In addition, Fiscal Officer Stan Carlisle reminded township residents to be sure to check the website regularly for important township information and updates.

The next meeting of the Hiram Township Trustees will be on January 21st at 7 pm in the Township Hall. This will be the Trustees annual organizational meeting for 2014.
