Las Vegas –  The Hiram College men’s basketball team captured its fifth straight victory with a 62-54 win against non-conference opponent Hendrix (Ark.) College as part of the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada last Friday. The Terriers never surrendered the lead during the first half despite Hendrix battling back to tie the game on two occasions.   In the second half, Hendrix battled its way to taking its first lead of the game with 15:15 left to go and a score of 36-34.  The two teams traded leads over the course of the next 3:45, the Terriers then made their move, going on a 13-1 run giving Hiram a 54-45 lead.  Hiram never trailed in the game again and led by as many as eight points, including the final score of 62-54.

In game two held on Saturday, the Terriers men’s basketball team fell, 99-87, to the Ramapo Roadrunners (NJ).  Hiram (6-5 overall) led early with a 6-1 advantage before the Ramapo (9-1 overall) offense ignited and shot an impressive 69.0 percent (20-of-29) overall in the first half.  Ramapo maintained its sizeable lead and had a 53-36 advantage at the intermission.

Ramapo continued the impressive shooting in the second half. Despite their  hot shooting, Hiram outscored Ramapo, 51-46, in the final 20 minutes, but would only pull to within 10 points on several occasions. The first half deficit would be too much for Hiram to rally from as Ramapo went on to win by the final of 99-87.

Hiram will next travel to Crawfordsville, Ind. for a North Coast Athletic Conference game against Wabash (Ind.) College on Friday, Jan. 4.  The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.[hr]
