Over 100 Geauga County Tourism Members united Wednesday evening for an informative and fun event. The evening began with a light dinner, networking and the opportunity to peruse the ‘Dessert Dash’ table with 13 amazing desserts that were later going to be available to the highest bidder. The business portion of the meeting was conducted and Geauga County Tourism Director, Lynda Nemeth outlined co-op advertising projects that will be available for members take part in, and the upcoming Spring Drive-it-Yourself Tour on May 3. Board President, Tina Mooney conducted the Board elections, and welcomed new Board Members Gabe Arnold and Reba Dykes. Retaining their seats were incumbent Board Members Amy Blair, Joyce Piteo, Scott Schaden, and Vicki Wilson.

Gabe Arnold of Geauga County based, tEkk3 was the guest speaker, and showcased the new Tour Geauga App that was created by his company. The App provides a great service to visitors, as well as local residents. For those new to the area the app provides great navigational tools that show you where you are, what is around you, lets you search by category or just ‘tour’ businesses in general. For our locals, this is a great way to ‘explore’ new businesses and there are also Hot Deals offered by area merchants. No coupons to clip or remember; simply show your phone at point of purchase for discounts!  The App is now available at the Google store for Droid users, and will be available through Apple for iphone users within the next few days. ‘Hot Deals’ are still getting added, get it loaded today and check it often!

A break gave the attendees the opportunity to enjoy those luscious desserts through a Dessert Dash. Each table worked together to outbid their rival tables for first pick of the tasty treats, then dashed to grab their choice and race back to their table. A great way to raise a little money for the organization and have a lot of fun! Desserts were all donated by local businesses and included delicacies like Angel Berry Trifle, Red Velvet Cake, Sour Cake Lemon Pie, Orange Kiss Me Cake, Amish Date Nut Wedding Pudding, and Luscious Lemon Layer Cake with fresh Raspberries.

While desserts were shared family style at each table, featured speaker Marvin Montgomery captivated the crowd with an uplifting talk on the Power of Attitude. Montgomery is a nationally recognized speaker and author of “The Professional’s Guide to Sales Success” and “Training Wheels.” The perfect message as we start the new year with fresh ideas and a positive outlook on a great year. The evening ended with the unveiling of the new 2014 Geauga County Visitor Guide, designed by Little Pond Graphics, another talented Geauga County resource.
