Garrettsville – The chilly weather didn’t deter the Irish or the wannabes from celebrating St. Paddy’s Day as Garrettsville put on her best green to celebrate the holiday this past Sunday. The traditional celebration really didn’t begin until Sunday, however many folks started celebrating a wee bit early Saturday night by indulging in a few adult beverages and what not.
Saturday night, Irish revelers were getting an early start to the holiday as “the pubs” around town had the green beer flowing and the corned beef and the cabbage served with style. Folks could also be seen wearing their best Irish attire as they looked for the proverbial Pot-O’Gold. Some even reported seeing leprechauns and that’s no Blarney. However, one can’t be sure if they actually saw them or if it was the influence of the green beer.
Sunday morning, folks hit the local eateries for kegs or eggs, or both, before working their way up to Reubens, and corned beef with cabbage. The Irish fare was washed down with a little, or in some cases, a lot, of green beer or Irish whiskey.
Jason Adkins was out making various balloon characters for the kids and the kids at heart. Magic Mike, not the guy from the movie, entertained kids of all ages with his magic and card tricks. Both Magic Mike and Jason floated around to various businesses in town delighting “children” of all ages with their talents.
Many folks took advantage of the wagon rides offered by Sam Bixler and Karen Wagenbrenner. Their horses, Caesar and Diego eagerly took folks on a short ride around town. Bagpiper Jeff Gaynor was spotted entertaining folks at Slim and Jumbos, the Eagles Club and around Main Street. Kindred Spirits, a duo that performs Irish music performed for the folks at the Eagles Club.
It was a fun-filled day for the entire family that had the Irish and the Irish in spirit celebrating their heritage at various establishments throughout the village and the last one heard, no one found the proverbial Pot-O-Gold
