For Friday, Bob Evans restaurants will be joining the Polio Plus campaign of worldwide Rotary International by contributing 15% of receipts collected from contributing diners to the fight to end polio sooner rather than later. The Garrettsville-Hiram club will be making a contribution to support the construction and operation of the Rotary International float entered in the Rose Bowl Parade in January The theme is to be “A Gift to the World.”
The Ravenna Rotary will be celebrating its 90th anniversary on November 9 and has invited the Portage cluster to join them at the Elks Club in Ravenna at noon. Congratulations are in order.
New member Damon Bahr, Elder Bahr with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wife Kim in attendance, was formally inducted by President Tom Collins. He was also thanked for assistance in setting up the Rotary booth at the Garrettsville Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase.
A seamstress was being recruited to sew the latest A.Z. Baker award for community service on the Rotary banner.
Tom also requested a 90th birthday card shower for a local resident.
Then it was on to preparations for the November 5 Reverse Raffle and Fund-raiser Wing-Ding. Hot news: New items are coming in for the auction phase—there are already whitewater raft trips on the table. Browns, Cavs and Lake Erie Monsters have all made contributions of memorabilia and apparel. Baskets’ items are being collected and assembled. Sponsors and donations are still welcome and appreciated. Carol Donley will be doing the lottery tree. Ticket sales are ongoing. Any Rotary member can provide tickets to the fun-filled evening. There was discussion on the different types of auction for the various items available. Dr. Mike Carlson will be acting as the celebrity auctioneer.
