Business as usual at the June 1, 2015 meeting of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club.

The group decided to continue holding their annual Reverse Raffle/Steak Fry Fundraiser at SugarBush Golf Club; this year’s date will be the first Thursday in November, 11/5/15.  Mark your calendars now for a great  pre-holiday-madness good time.

Congrats went to Caitlin Lawless and Amy Crawford for the (very) successful completion of the Fit-n-Fun program this year involving the students at the James A. Garfield Elementary School…and their families…and their teachers, who all got to participate in the activities, AND will be keeping Fit-n-Fun journals over the summer to be entered in drawings in the Fall.  Many thanks as well, to the local sponsors—Charles Auto Family, SkyLanes, Ellerhorst-Russell Insurance—and other contributing groups—Portage County Park District, Eagle Creek, Hiram Police, Garrettsville Police, Rite Aid, the Girl Scouts, the Sierra Club.  Over 800 kids got to take part.  They had a great time.  The faculty and staff did wonderful things in aid of the cause.  Looks like this one’s a keeper.  They’re slated to be recognized at the next Garfield Board of Education meeting.

SummerFest is coming—June 26, 27 & 28—and plans are afoot for a Rotary booth again this year.  The focus will be on the international student exchange program…and possibly fund-raising.  Could be a river trip in your future if you visit the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary booth in front of Geauga Vision on Main St.  Other attractions will be there too, not including the Rotarians on duty. Check out the de’cor.

The annual Steak Fry will be on August 3.  Officers from the Portage County Cluster will be invited too.  There will be a guest chef/grill master.

A brief discussion followed of goals for the 2015-2016 club year, led by president-elect, Tom Collins.  Points raised included more engagement and interaction within the membership, recruitment to expand membership, fundraising, possible new projects, many involving the Headwaters Bike and Hike Trail.

Speakers for the months of June and July are lining up.
