Freedom Township – The Board of Trustees of Freedom Township, Portage County Ohio took legislative notice that the use, possession, cultivation, distribution and sale of marijuana, whether for medical or recreational use is illegal under the controlled substances act; therefore, the Freedom Board of Trustees resolved as a land use matter, medical marijuana cultivator, dispensaries and processors are prohibited within Freedom Township, to protect the health, safety and welfare of its residents.

This comes after House Bill 523 signed by Ohio Governor John Kasich went into effect September 8, 2016. The Bill under Ohio revised Code3796.29 states that a Board of Trustees may adopt a resolution to prohibit or limit the number of medical marijuana cultivators, processors and dispensaries within the limits of a township.

In other news,  Dave Bultinck is looking to resurrect the Freedom Parks Board.  The board is interested in the community’s ideas to enhance and revitalize the park in Freedom Township. Their first order of business is to get members on the board. To be considered a true board they must have seven members who live in the community. They are looking to grow and are inviting the community to their next meeting on Monday October 3. The park board is looking to hold fundraisers and activities that will benefit the Township.

“The funds raised will be used to purchase things for Freedom Township Parks and will benefit all who enjoy the outdoors,” Bultnick said.

David and his colleagues are looking to enhance and restore the parks in Freedom and they want this the board to be an asset to the community.  If you have questions or concerns feel free to contact Dave Bultnick at or 330-557-0100.
