746

On March 29, in Quantico, Virginia, there was dedicated a memorial to all members of Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron HML-167 who gave their lives in service to the country over the 46  years since the squadron  became (in 1968) the first such squadron formed in a war zone, VietNam.  More than 300 family, friends, and current and former squadron members attended the dedication ceremony.  The memorial is located a  short walk  from the National  Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico.

Among those honored and named in an engraving  on the face of the memorial is Marine Corporal Cecil Boyd Wagner, whose helicopter was shot down  on September 29, 1968 in Quang Nam, South VietNam, with the entire crew killed.  Corporal Wagner and his family lived on Center Street (at the base of High Street)  in Garrettsville for most of his youth, before moving to Maple Heights.  He graduated from high school in Maple Heights in 1965.
