Garrettsville – On Sept. 8, 2012, the 900 Coalition held a free-to-the-public event at the former Paul’s Lumber Yard. This function was the kick-off event for our organization which consists of members of the Garrettsville Safety Forces. Assembled were work vehicles from Scotchman Electric (Bucket Truck), Village Motors (Tow Truck), the Geauga County Sheriff (Emergency Command Vehicle), the Portage County Sheriff (Emergency Command Vehicle and Patrol SUV), Village of Garrettsville Street Dept. (Plow Truck), Garrettsville-Freedom-Nelson Fire Department (Ladder Truck), Community EMS District (Ambulance), and the Garrettsville Police Department (Police Cars). The vehicles were available for inspection and pictures.
In addition to the vehicles, the participants were greeted by Dora the Explorer. Kids activities included face painting by Just For Kids, an inflatable castle bouncer by Tents for Rent, Fatal Vision drunk driver simulation by the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, and cornhole games. Entertainment was provided by “Mark the Magician”, and the event closed after a K-9 Unit demonstration by Lt. Tim Christopher from Garrettsville PD.
During this event a large box of non-perishable food items was collected and will be donated to the local food bank. The group was also able to give out   numerous bags of school supplies to the kids attending.
The 900 Coalition was able to raise $268 from auction and raffle items; this money will be put  towards the purchase of fitness equipment. Marty Corrao was the winner of the BMX bike raffle.  To date, total funds raised stands at $718.
The group would like to thank those that were able to attend this initial event, and especially those that donated their time or resources to help make the event a reality.  It is hoped that this can become an annual function in the future. Please visit the 900 Coalition Facebook page for information on future events and updates.
