Council Approves Use of Lot for Community Garden

Windham – Windham Village Council held their monthly meeting a week ahead of the original scheduled meeting to accommodate council members’ schedules. The meeting was called to order and the minutes, expenditures, bank reconciliation and safety report were presented and approved.

Guest Charity Showalter addressed council about use of village property for the community garden. The parcel she is seeking to use is 9717 Grove Court. After some discussion, the council gave a verbal approval for the land use with a contract that spells out the specific to follow.  Showalter also announced that they were selling benches and stepping stones for the gardens, along with bed sponsorship. The groundbreaking ceremony for the garden is scheduled March 29, 2014 at 2pm with a rain date of April 5, 2014.

Council approved Ordinance O-2014-10 approving and adopting the permanent appropriations for the year 2014 for the Village of Windham called for in the budget. The amount they approved was $2,587,837.38.

Resolution R-2014-3 authorizing the internet sale of unneeded, unfit or obsolete personal property, including vehicles and equipment owned by the village was on its third read and council approved the measure.

Council is considering an ordinance establishing a policy requiring all policemen to have bullet proof vest and to provide for the use of the police clothing allowance to assist in the cost of acquiring the bulletproof vests. This was a first read.

Lastly, council tabled a vote on establishing compensation for a zoning inspector until the April meeting due to a public meeting on the issue is set for Tuesday March 25, 2014. They will decide this issue at the next council meeting scheduled for April 24, 2014.
