Breakfast with the Queen

Mantua – As February winds down, releasing the weary from winter’s icy grip, it’s not uncommon to look forward to all things spring — especially maple syrup and pancake breakfasts. And on Saturday, February 24th, you and your family will get to enjoy those two harbingers of spring, along with a very special guest. That’s because for the first time ever, you can have pancakes with the Queen.

After several Potato Festivals without a reigning monarch, in 2017 Ms. Hannah Ule was crowned Potato Festival Queen last September, and has been representing Mantua at ten local festivals around Ohio. While honored to represent her hometown, Hannah and her family found that the expense of these travels can add up. In an effort to support the travel of future Potato Festival Queens as well as future Tater Tot Princes and Princess, the Festival Committee is holding the first of what they hope will be an annual fundraising event to support their participation in these goodwill efforts. And you can do your part to help them simply by having breakfast.

Just come to the Crestwood High School cafeteria on Saturday, February 24th for a delicious pancake breakfast. From 9 am until noon festival volunteers, including past Potato Festival queens, will be serving pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee for the low cost of $8 for adults and $4 for kids 12 and under. Proceeds from the event will help defray travel expenses of future Potato Festival queens and court. For more information on this family-friendly event contact Kim Ule at (330) 977-0092, kimmyule@yahoo.com, or visit mantuapotatofestival.org.

In addition, mark your calendars for the Potato Festival’s annual Reverse Raffle on Saturday, April 14th. That evening, you’ll have the chance to win $1,000, as well as many other raffle basket prizes. The evening will feature a catered dinner and open bar — tickets are $80 per couple for great night out.

And don’t forget, the 2018 Potato Festival will be held in Buchert Park on Thursday, September 7th through Sunday, September 9th. For more information, visit The Mantua Potato Festival Facebook page.
