Windham – Spring has officially arrived and if you have been lying around all winter then it is time to get outside and get moving. Here is an event you will not want to miss and it will not only help you get moving it will help a local group generate funds to restore their park.

I am talking about the first 5K Fun Run through the Ravenna Arsenal held May 12, 2012 at 10 am.  The event is being sponsored by the Windham Park Restoration Committee (WPRC) with proceeds going toward the restoration of the village park in Windham.
Pre- registration for the event is going on now and one can register by sending name, address, phone number and $30 for adult participant (walker or runner) and $20 for children 10 and under.  Make checks payable to Windham Park Restoration Committee and mail them to 9858 Wolfe Road Windham, Ohio 44288. All entries will need to be received by April 30, 2012. One must be pre-registered for this event as the arsenal needs a head count prior to the event. Roller blades and bicycles are not permitted.
Participants are asked to meet at Windham High School parking lot at 9530 Bauer Street Windham at 9 am with the race beginning at 10 am. Each participant will receive a t-shirt to commemorate the event. The top three finishers will also receive prizes. For more information contact Deann Donham 330 766-3477 or Katie Swearingen 330 548-2277 one may also communicate through email at windhamparkrestorationcommittee@yahoo.com.

The Windham Park Restoration Committee mission is to provide their children with a safe, clean and fun place to play. They are not only concerned parents that want a safe, clean and fun place for their children to play; but they are also proud members of the community that want to beautify their village. They are in the beginning stages of organizing a committee that is dedicated to raising the funds that are needed to restore the playground at the Windham Park.

The  primary goal of the WPRC is to try and raise enough money to restore the park within one year.  If they have the support of the community and enough interested parties, they would love to expand their vision to reach beyond just restoring the park, possibly even improving the basketball courts and tennis courts, creating a walking trail or even a skate park, etc. The possibilities are endless if we work together and dedicate ourselves to not only our children, but also to our community.   The WPRC is working in conjunction with the Village Park Committee.
