2014 Balloon-A-Fair Seeking Parade Entries
Parade applications are available for the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair Grand Parade. Entries should focus on this year’s theme “Ravenna Pride In The Sky”. Parade line up begins at 7:00 am and the parade step off at 9:00 AM September 20, in beautiful downtown Ravenna. All units must have a 2014 parade application on file. The All American Judges will be judging the parade. Parade entries are encouraged to stay for the opening ceremony when the parade winners will be announced. Garfield Fall Jr. High Soccer Sign Ups
Our Garfield Junior High soccer team will be co-ed and be comprised of grades 6 thru 8; open to all communities. We will be playing other Jr. High teams in Geauga County and the surrounding area so travel is mandatory, skill level is higher than recreation and games will most likely be played on the weekends. Expect the fee to play to be about $50.00 per player and team sponsors are welcome. This is the first step in Garfield establishing a Jr. High soccer program. Our first practice will be August 7 at Brosius Rd. Field from 6 to 8 PM. Safety Town for incoming Crestwood Primary School Kindergarten students will take place Aug 4-8, 2014 at Crestwood Primary School. Mantua Community Center Open
Free and open to all, the Community Center at Mantua Center is open Tuesdays from 9:30 to mid-afternoon with a variety of activities. Watercolor group starts at 9:30, sewing projects all morning, jigsaw puzzle throughout the day. Bring your own project to work on, or just have some coffee and chat. At noon we share a potluck lunch, with everyone bringing food for the buffet. When everyone but those in charge has left, we lock the doors until 5:00, when we re-open for our “Don’t Eat Alone Potluck” at 5:30, with a special invitation to anyone who eats way too many meals without companionship. Shalersville Historical Museum Meeting
The Shalersville Historical Museum monthly meeting will introduce a pictorial book on the Barns of Shalersville. The meeting starts at 7 but those who only wish to see the book may come at 6:30. This book has been created by Judy Thornton and her love of barns has been a 2 year project. Books may be purchased for $35.00.

Harvest Point Church Luau
On August 9 Harvest Point Church (Lordstown, Ohio) will host a community Luau at the city parks at Tod Ave. and Salt Springs Rd. from noon- 3:00 p.m. This is the fourth year that the church has sponsored this family oriented, fun-filled, FREE event which includes games, food, music and prizes. There will be a Farmers Market and Bakery which provides fresh produce and baked goods at no charge, a Food Court which will provide hot dogs, hot ham sandwiches, chips and more throughout the afternoon free of charge. Games for all ages, including the dunk tank, goldfish game, high striker, bounce house and slide, to name just a few, will be available for everyone to enjoy. Members of the congregation will be available in the prayer tent throughout the event. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the afternoon.
The former Mantua Center (Township) School is celebrating 100 years since it opened its doors to students in 1914. Community Picnic & Health Fair
On August 16th, the Crestwood Lions will be hosting a Community Picnic/Health Fair at Buchert Park in Mantua from noon until 4pm. The Lions will provide free hot dogs, chips and pop for all attendees. There will be eye screenings for adults and children, blood pressure and blood sugar testing, information from various medical providers and chair massages. Local businesses will be in attendance to provide information on the services or products they provide. The Lions will also provide free games for the children. In addition, there will be raffle prizes and a 50/50 drawing. All proceeds from the raffle and 50/50 will go to the Lions 13D Eye Care Foundation, which provides eye surgeries for individuals who have no means of obtaining them by themselves. There may be more. Mantua Potato Stomp Race and Fun Run
The 36th Annual Potato Stomp race will take place on September 6th. The Potato Stomp is a classic road race through the scenic streets of Mantua Village and the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley. There is a one mile Fun Run that begins at 8:30am and the 3.5 mile and 9 mile races begin at 9am. All races start at Crestwood High school. Fun Run registration on race day is $8 with no shirt/$15 including shirt. Race day entry fee for the nine mile race is $15/$20 and for the 3.5 mile race $13/$18.
