Feline Spay and Neuter Clinic
In an effort to help with the growing cat problem in Portage County, Rose’s Rescue along with the Portage Co Dog Warden’s Office will be hosting an all cat spay and neuter clinic on Tuesday July 15, 2014. The cost per spay or neuter will be $20 per cat. An appointment is required. The $20 must be prepaid to hold an appointment spot. The $20 is nonrefundable if you do not show up for your scheduled appointment or cancel less than 48 hours prior to the event.

2014 Balloon-A-Fair Seeking Parade Entries
Parade applications are available for the Ravenna Balloon A-Fair Grand Parade. Entries should focus on this year’s theme “Ravenna Pride In The Sky”. Parade line up begins at 7:00 am and the parade step off at 9:00 AM September 20, in beautiful downtown Ravenna. All units must have a 2014 parade application on file. The All American Judges will be judging the parade. Parade entries are encouraged to stay for the opening ceremony when the parade winners will be announced. The ‘Legacy’ of Larry Doby
Speaker Ike Brooks of the Baseball Heritage Museum in Cleveland will be at the Century House, across from Hiram Police Station off 700 south of 82/305, June 26th at 7:30pm.The topic will be the ‘Legacy’ of Larry Doby. This presentation will discuss the career highlights of the second African American to play Major League baseball and the first in the American League with the Cleveland Indians. The Portage Lakes Purple Martin Association is holding a free, family oriented festival. The 5th Annual Buckeye MartinFest June 28th from 2-4pm at North Reservoir Boat Launch Ramp, State Mill Road, Coventry. Held in this area features feeding the Purple Martins, seeing their habitat, even possibly holding some of the babies in hand. There will be many exhibits set up by various organizations specializing in nature and the environment including: Summit County MetroParks, the Ohio Division of Natural Resources, Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association, the Akron Library and, of course, the Portage Lakes Purple Martin Association. The Community Center at Mantua Center will continue to be open thru the summer on Tuesdays in the old Mantua Center School Building, on Center Rd. just north of SR 82. Free, everyone’s invited. Children must have adult supervision, but we’ve got craft materials and lots of different games we’d be glad to teach you all to play, adults and children alike. Hours are 9:30 am until late afternoon. (We close when everyone’s gone but the leadership.) Bring food to share for potluck lunch at noon. Our current service project is making dresses for little girls in Africa. Pattern is simple and children can participate. We re-open at 5:00 for the Don’t Eat Alone supper potluck served at 5:30, to which we extend a special invitation to anyone who eats way too many meals by themself: widowed, divorced, never married, spouse travelling, it doesn’t matter. Beverages and tableware provided.
