Trumbull County Celebrates National Adoption Day
On a beautiful, crisp fall day, several area families joyously celebrated their newest additions. No, it wasn’t at the local hospital. Rather, gathered outside the castle-like Trumbull County Courthouse, holding tightly to brightly-colored balloons drifting in the autumn winds, community children gave thanks for the families that adopted them and new parents and new siblings gave thanks for the little ones that have now officially become a part of their families.
Presided over by Hon. Thomas A. Swift, who has been a judge in the Trumbull County Probate Court for over thirty years, the festivities included a musical performance, refreshments, a proclamation presented by the Trumbull Commissioners commemorating the day, and most importantly, the finalizations of three adoptions. A longtime advocate and supporter of adoptions, Judge Swift offered words of encouragement to the children: “Always remember your families love you.”
Organized by the Probate Court and the Trumbull County Children Services, who have partnered together for several years for the cause, the event coincided with November as National Adoption Month and concluded with the release of the beautiful balloons into the equally beautiful sky. Each of those balloons represents an Ohio child still in need of an adoptive family.
