Aurora – If you are driving down State Route 43 in Aurora Wednesday evenings, you may be surprised to see a large number of classic cars cruising on past. The car-enthusiast eye candy is all thanks to the Car Cruisin’ Days being held at Sirna’s Market and Deli.
The general manager of the market and deli, Bryan Bennington, himself the owner of a 1973 Corvette and member of The National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC), only recently began this event since he purchased his own classic car. “After I started learning about cruise-ins, I thought we have the perfect venue for this.” Their first cruise-in quickly followed on April 25th of this year. “It’s great seeing all the different cars, the different people. It’s like a big party.”
With loud music, good food and groups of people milling about classic cars, this party takes place every Wednesday through September 12th, their last show for the season, from 5-7 p.m. According to Bennington, he registers roughly 40-45 cars a week, but has seen numbers reach over 65 in a single evening, and he has seen over 200 different car models this year alone.
Amongst all the cars he’s seen so far, one in particular stood out. “We have a lot of really, really cool cars, but just about the coolest car we’ve seen come in was an original-owner of a 1954 Corvette.” This car was the pick of the week for the June 6th theme of Corvette Club Night. The next show, scheduled for August 8th, is themed Classic Trucks.
The show is family-focused, with kids hungrily perusing their dream cars alongside the adults. One gentleman jokingly comments about a young spectator eyeing a red GTO that, “I think he’s in love!” The cars at the Cruise-In are nearly all swoon-worthy, but some take the cake more than others with their mint condition or themed graphics and designs.
In addition to the food, music and cars, Car Cruisin’ Days also offers the chance to win. Sirna’s Market and Deli is selling raffle tickets with the prize being a red 2013 Dodge Dart. The drawing will be held on September 5th. Tickets can be purchased in person or online at www.sirnasmarket.com.
